Rice confronts his demons and the result is beautifully expressive music worth paying a few bucks for the listen.
I wish I could pull her off this cd and listen to DR as I heard him in concert. It remains brilliant. I keep coming back to this cd. He is very funny, neither sad nor a depressing git at all. What has worn on me with this cd is LH. Saw Damien in Wash.DC couple years ago. Again, brilliant. That being said, I saw him as a solo act without Lisa. "Keen" as a noun or verb comes from the Irish Gaelic term "caoineadh" (to cry) and references to it from the seventh, eighth and twelfth centuries are extensive." After a bit, I want to tell her to shove off, just as apparently DH did shortly before I saw him live. Her keening doesn't wear well at all and it has made me put this cd away for awhile several times.
I enjoy this CD from beginning to end. I purchased it a few years ago and it is still relevant in my collection. An all around good pick if you enjoy similarly styled artists. Enjoy.
There is no one like Damien Rice. This is one of my favorite albums of all time from one of my favorite musicians of all time. Anyone who hasn't listened to him, should listen to this CD. His live albums are also fantastic. I was even lucky enough to see him live when I lived near philly a few years ago. For those who do like Damien Rice, check out the two ladies who play in the group, (Lisa Hannigan and Vyvienne Long) they have excellent music also. Buy this CD, its a masterpiece.
Damien Rice is so passionate, you can hear on the music that he creates. The all album is great, what a great musician, and with Lisa Hannigan.what a duo. Higly recommend.
